Minor Change Shape (Su) Baltazo has the supernatural ability to alter his appearance as though using a disguise self (PH 222) spell that affects his body but not his possessions. This ability is not an illusory effect, but a minor physical alteration of his facial features, skin color and texture, and size, within the limits described for the spell. Baltazo can use this ability at will, and the alteration lasts until he changes shape again. Baltazo reverts to his natural form when killed. A true seeing spell reveals his natural form. When using this ability to create a disguise, Baltazo receives a +10 circumstance bonus on Disguise checks. Using this ability is a full-round action.
The changeling comes from the Eberron Campaign Setting.
In his natural form, Baltazo had pale gray skin, blank white eyes, and only the suggestion of a nose and lips. However, he was usually encountered impersonating someone else, and he often wore a silver skull mask when he was “himself.” He favored simple black robes with a cloak, clasped with the symbol of his sect.
In the beginning, Baltazo existed only as a name. Sheen first heard Baltazo’s name in a message left for him by Gyderic, who asked him to seek a weapon that Morard had made. Our heroes learned that the cause uniting Gyderic and Baltazo was called the Illuminated, a sect infiltrating the factions to gain control of them. Baltazo had become the sect’s leader, displacing their founder, Green Marvent. Baltazo hails from a backwater Prime called Eberron, but nothing is known of his time before joining his sect.
Our heroes found his hidden lair in Plague-Mort, where they left him bound, rescued his slave Yolette, looted his belongings, and destroyed his laboratory.
Baltazo believed in Marvent’s creed, but took over the sect to further his own cause. Other people were nothing more than pawns to him; though devoid of compassion or empathy, he was a virtuoso at manipulating others.
